Activeword.org - Devotional: "The Perfect Path
He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD. (Proverbs 18:22 NKJV)
It's the biggest decision you can make aside from your choice to follow Christ. Whom you choose to marry will affect the rest of your earthly existence and impact the generations that follow from this union. This leads to a sobering and perhaps even a scary thought: What if I make the wrong choice? God's Word gives us some guiding wisdom when it comes to such an important decision: He who finds a wife finds a good thing.
The Hebrew word Solomon chose here for finds means 'to find something along the way.' When the Scriptures make reference to a person's way, it's usually describing the course or path that God has appointed for his or her life. The implication of this proverb is that a son or daughter of God will find a mate as he or she is walking along the path He has appointed. I've seen this lived out several times as faithful followers find Mr. or Mrs. Right while serving in ministry.
This is a stark contrast to the world's wisdom when it comes to meeting your mate. Men and women are forced into desperation mode as though everything rests on them. They have to look just right and be at just the right place at just the right time if they have any hope of meeting the right one. How exhausting and futile! It's far bet"
