There’s an old story of a certain young boy who wrote a letter to God about the Christmas presents he wanted: “I’ve been good for six months now,” wrote the lad. Then, after some reflection, he erased six months and scribbled in a more modest three months. After some more reflection he erased that too, and replaced it with two weeks. After yet another pause, he erased that too.

The boy then rose from the table, went over to the nativity scene on the mantle, grabbed the figure of Mary, and returned triumphantly to his writing. This happy change of events required an entirely new draft of the letter. It began: “Dear God, if you ever want to see your mother again . . .”

Many things change between childhood and maturity. But often not our misguided attempts to cut deals with God. God has given us the ultimate deal . . . accept his gracious gift of salvation provided through His son, Jesus, and live eternally with Him. There’s really no dealing beyond that, or better than that.

News 14 | 24 Hour Local News | TOP STORIES | RBC Center to host Harvest crusade: "RALEIGH -- A California pastor has made his way to North Carolina to host Triangle Harvest 07, the largest evangelical gathering to come to the area in more than a decade.

More than 200 churches in the Triangle have been working for months to get ready for this weekend long event featuring evangelist Greg Laurie.

Laurie is a pastor of one of the largest churches in America and is known for holding public evangelistic crusades and his ability to apply biblical principals to current events.

“Harvest 07 is very similar to a Billy Graham Crusade, in that tradition,” said Harvest Ministries executive director John Collins. “Billy Graham is well known here in North Carolina and we hope to carry on that tradition of presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ in a friendly but enthusiastic and passionate way.”

About 400,000 invitations have gone out for Triangle Harvest 07. The event runs Friday through Sunday at RBC Center. It is free and open to everyone, but you will have to pay to park."
