Jesus is the champion of the common man. When He walked this earth, He did not shut Himself up in an ivory tower. He walked the back roads and city streets of Israel just like everyone else. He didn't run in the A-list social circles. He was willing to rub shoulders with the lowest of the low, the world's Z-list. And He didn't talk in terms that only exceptionally educated people could understand; He spoke in the plain street language of His day. The religious elite had done an excellent job of distancing the average man from God, so you can imagine how refreshing it was as Jesus entered the scene, turning the religious system upside-down and putting God back within reach of the common folks. No wonder they heard Him gladly.

He was relatable to those He came into contact with, and we should be following His example. There are some Christians who feel their effectiveness as a witness is in direct proportion to their weirdness. They speak in King James English, carry around one of those mammoth coffee-table Bibles, and frequently incorporate references to 'the blood of the Lamb' and 'crucifying the flesh' into their casual conversations. That's not being a witness; that's being weird!
